John Denver, a singer-songwriter of Colorado that specialized in folk music, touched the hearts of millions. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in affection with Colorado and eventually relocated to Aspen. A few beat a path through Colorado due to Denver's famous tunes for the state he was raised in. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the curator of this hall of fame, stated: "I don't believe there is another performer that embodies Colorado as John Denver." In 2011 Denver was named the Hall of Fame's very first inductee. He is now the symbol of Colorado for people worldwide. If you travel with me, you may meet people at the other side of the planet. For example someone who is from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're Colorado-based, Colorado you will get "Oh John Denver!" Brown stated. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief time in folk music groups was Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff wrote the song with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver saw an early rendition it was clear that the song could be the next hit single. The song was recorded by the singer only a few days afterward when he performed it in front of an enthusiastic audience at Washington D.C.
