John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of them situated in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He fell in love with Colorado and moved to Aspen. Denver's most popular songs about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated that John Denver was by far one of the most popular musicians who was a symbol of Colorado. Denver was a member of the Hall of Fame as its initial member in the year 2011. Denver has been the symbol of the state to people all over. If you travel with me, you may meet people at the other end of the globe. For example people who is from New Zealand. And when someone asks you if you're from Colorado the response is "Oh John Denver!" Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads is the only Denver Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked with small folk groups. The track was written with Bill Danoff. Danoff used Johnny Cash as the inspiration for the song, but Denver recognized that the song could become a smash hit when the song was first heard by him. Danoff recorded the track within a couple of days after performing it to an enthusiastic audience in Washington D.C.
